South West Circle of Lakeland Homeopaths

How I disovered Homeopathy
I first encountered homeopathy in 1999 having recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Prescribed thyroxin by my GP, I was told there was no possibility my thyroid would ever function normally again. Although I knew nothing about homeopathy, I was unwavering in my belief that if something had caused my thyroid to become underactive, it must be possible to reverse that process.

Still reeling from the shock of what I perceived to be a life sentence of drug taking, I consulted a homeopath, and over a period of several months my thyroxin levels returned to normal and have remained that way ever since.

I was captivated by this magical therapy. After attending an evening class at the University of Bath I undertook a three year professional training at the Lakeland College of Homeopathy in Ambleside, graduating from there in 2006.

What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy has been around for over 200 years and is widely recognised as a very safe, non-invasive form of medicine. It considers the individual as a whole person rather than focusing on a particular medical condition. It also recognises the connection between physical illness and our mental or emotional state. This means that two people presenting with what appears to be the same condition may be treated in a different way.

Allium CepaHow does Homeopathy work?
The human body has its own inbuilt system of healing which we see in action, for example after a simple cut or an injury. However, there are times when the body struggles to cope on its own and needs help. Using the principle of similars, homeopathy works alongside the body’s own healing mechanism to stimulate and support it and help overcome illness and trauma.

A very, very simple example of this is the remedy Allium Cepa, made from the red onion. Most of us have experienced watery eyes, a runny nose and sneezing when chopping an onion. Using the principle of similars, this is one of several remedies which might be used in cases of colds or hayfever where we may experience those same symptoms.

Is Homeopathy safe?
Homeopathic remedies are made from everyday substances, diluted many times to form a very gentle yet immensely powerful remedy. Properly prescribed and used, homeopathic remedies are completely safe and non toxic.

What does Homeopathy treat?
Because homeopathy treats the whole person, it may be effective in helping people who are experiencing symptoms of almost any condition.

Must I be ill to consult a Homeopath?
Absolutely not. Many people choose to consult a homeopath, not because they are ill but simply because they are feeling out of sorts or are experiencing some kind of emotional difficulty. Grief and trauma, for example can have a devastating effect on a person’s life, yet all too often we are told to ‘get on with it’ or ‘pull ourselves together’. Homeopathy can often help a person to unlock and express their feelings, even from many years ago, and come to terms with their particular situation.

What happens during a consultation?
To allow me to see what may be involved in your treatment, I will take a complete case history. This helps me to understand what to focus on and gives me a perspective on you as an individual. At the end of the consultation, I generally explain where I will be directing your treatment and why.

How long does a consultation last?
Most consultations last an hour. However, as every person is different, every consultation is different too and some people need more time and others less. I am happy to discuss this with you beforehand and suggest how much time may be required for an initial consultation and for follow ups.

I charge £40 for a one hour session.

Your prescription will normally be posted to you after the consultation. As well as using traditional remedies, I also work with new 21st century remedies, Narayani remedies and flower essences and you will generally receive a bottle containing a combination of these. Because of this, I make a prescription charge of £7.50.
